Artist's Description
This photograph shows the Athabasca Glacier on a beautiful day in the Canadian Rockies. The glacier is located in Jasper National Park, along the Icefields Parkway. It is easy to see why the Icefields Parkway is frequently described as the most scenic highway in the world. The Athabasca Glacier spills down from the Columbia Ice Field, one of the largest ice masses found south of the Arctic Circle. Unfortunately, global warming has caused a 40% reduction in the size of the glacier during the past 125 years.
